Shotcrete / Gunite – whats the difference?
Shotcrete and gunite are both methods of applying concrete using a high-pressure hose, but they differ in how the concrete mix is prepared and applied. Shotcrete refers to concrete that is mixed with water before being pumped through the hose (wet-mix process), whereas gunite uses a dry mix that is combined with water at the nozzle during application (dry-mix process). Shotcrete generally allows for better control over the water-cement ratio and produces less rebound, making it ideal for larger projects. Gunite, on the other hand, is more flexible for small-scale or intricate work because the nozzle operator can control the water content on the fly.
